A Database Tool to Support Probabilistic Assumption-based Reasoning in Intelligence Analysis
نویسنده
چکیده
The Self-Reconciling Evidential Database (SED) is a tool for intelligence analysts that combines a numerical uncertainty calculus with a process of higher-order reasoning about knowledge and assumptions. SED includes (1) a natural representation of evidential arguments in terms of a normal or firstblush reaction to the evidence plus a set of exception conditions, (2) a modeling technique that drastically reduces the number of assessments required to build complex arguments, and (3) a process of resolving conflict among competing arguments by examining and revising assumptions that led to the conflict rather than by statistically aggregating.

متن کاملBIM-Tool: Modeling and Reasoning Support for Strategic Business Models
The BIM-Tool provides graphical modeling and analysis support for the Business Intelligence Model (BIM). BIM-Tool is a standalone application built on top of Eclipse. The tool supports two kinds of automated reasoning: (1) bottom-up “what-if” analysis: given input labels about some elements of a BIM model (for example, success/failure for leaf goals), do these propagate to other elements in the...
متن کاملA Trust Based Probabilistic Method for Efficient Correctness Verification in Database Outsourcing
Correctness verification of query results is a significant challenge in database outsourcing. Most of the proposed approaches impose high overhead, which makes them impractical in real scenarios. Probabilistic approaches are proposed in order to reduce the computation overhead pertaining to the verification process. In this paper, we use the notion of trust as the basis of our probabilistic app...
متن کاملIntegrating model-based decision support in a multi-modal reasoning system for managing type 1 diabetic patients
We present a multi-modal reasoning (MMR) methodology that integrates case-based reasoning (CBR), rule-based reasoning (RBR) and model-based reasoning (MBR), meant to provide physicians with a reliable decision support tool in the context of type 1 diabetes mellitus management. In particular, we have implemented a decision support system that is able to jointly exploit a probabilistic model of t...
